This week we covered lower thirds with Simon and got to design our own. In Nargess’s lesson we attempted to film out Emma adaptations. Attila showed us how to assemble/setup and use the big cameras, Abdullah showed us a black magic 2k camera and some of his own film projects, where he talked over some techniques he used. Nick helped us finalise things on our websites like our journals, Simon continued to look at our university choices. Sabah looked over our photoshop filter tests.
Week 6 -Online week 3: 12/10/2020
This week we looked at what makes a good story and character profiles with Nargess, Attila took us over focal lengths, camera lens differences, lens flares and depth of field. Nick spoke to us about how we would define ourselves by looking into our values and passions. With Sabah we typed up our photoshop filters and Simon checked up on our progression pages and websites.
Week 5 -Practical week 2: 5/10/2020
This week with Nargess we reviewed our excerpts and were tasked with planning our own adaptation of Emma. Attila helped us film Gareth’s idea for a silent film, I was one of the actors. Sabah took us through photoshop filters, Nick gave us a lesson to practice with the cameras and with Simon we continued to look into universities and progression.
Week 4 -Online week 2: 28/9/2020
My second week online started with a lesson from Nargess on book to film adaptations, which mainly focused on Bridget Jones’s diary and pride and prejudice. We were also set the task to go over an excerpt of Emma and highlight key features like dialogue. With Attila we looked at some silent film editing techniques, like cutting a hole and projecting another clip through it. With Nick we focused on how to introduce yourself in three sentences whilst sounding professional, Simon helped us look into university ideas and make a selection. Sabah continued with the website research whilst covering some photoshop tools.
Week 3 -Practical week 1: 21/9/2020
This week was our first week back in college. With Attila we shared our black and white photos and said a little about our inspiration from them, as well as watching a few silent films. We had Nick for the first time as a cover for Simon where we covered story arcs. Tim covered how to make a flip book and the story of Eadweard Muybridge, where he created the first moving image. With Nargess we toured the new studio equipment and the gallery, Sabah refreshed us on how to us shape tools on photoshop as well as covering for Simon and giving us the task of finding bad websites.
Week 2 -Online week 1: 14/9/2020
This week we had our first proper week back on the course. We mainly were told how things would move forwards this year, our online weeks will be theory based and the weeks we will be in the college will be more geared to practical work.
Over the course of this week we had a recap of how to write a fiction script with Attila, as well as getting set the first part to unit 9. For this we had to take a selfie and make it black and white, but also take 1 to 5 pictures that told a story. We also created our websites with Simon, with Tim we touched on stingers (a short tagline that summarizes a film) and listened to his story about how his idea got stolen when he pitched it to a production company. Sabah helped us create a few sketches of possible website logos.
Week 1 -Online Induction week: 7/9/2020
This week was our induction week, as we were in the second year of our course we had our induction online. We were given a 3 day induction timetable, which didn’t have any days or dates which left me confused. After a bit of communication with Attila, our tutor, we learnt that it didn’t apply to us and instead we only had to watch a few induction videos. Most of these just gave us information we already knew apart from the Covid-19 safety video that gave us more information on how the college would operate. My favorite was the security safety video as it was made of movie clips.
Journal welcome
Hello and welcome to my reflective Journal. Over the next year I will be documenting all work towards projects/lessons and when it was done. It will mainly be made up of practical work write ups and theory documentation.
